Telegram refuses Malaysian government's content censorship request

Telegram has refused to cooperate with Malaysia's Communications and Multimedia Department due to its reluctance to be involved in "any form of political censorship". Remi Vaughn, a Telegram spokesperson, said in a statement to the New Straits Times that the messaging app has been actively limiting harmful content on the platform since its launch, including the distribution of prohibited goods and public pornographic content. Telegram administrators manually monitor the app's public content, and users can report violating content through the app and by email to [email protected], citing violations of the service terms. However, "Telegram will not participate in any form of political censorship."
